The famous pop singer?s ex-husband, director Guy Ritchie, apparently offered a sympathetic ear for her after Madonna?s adoption attempt in Malawi failed. A source said the following about Guy Ritchie?s sympathetic behavior: "It's unusual for Madonna to cry but this has really upset her. Explaining to Rocco why Mercy wasn't coming home has been difficult. Guy was incredibly sympathetic, calmed her down and told her to be happy with the family she had." And then Guy Ritchie returned to the two girls he had picked up the night before at that after-ball party. Still, you have to commend him for actually answering the phone? especially since it was IT on the other side.

MadonnaPop singer Madonna has filed an appeal in Malawi's High Court challenging a judge's ruling that prevents her from adopting a second child from the poor African country. Madonna was denied her request for an interim adoption of 4-year-old Mercy James today, five days after making her application official. The bid was reportedly rejected because of a requirement that prospective parents be a resident in the country for 18 to 24 months prior to any adoption. But the legend is determined to fight the ruling and lodged an appeal in the capital city of Lilongwe, just hours after her application was turned down. Madonna's lawyer Alan Chinula says, "I just filed the notice of appeal this afternoon on instructions from my client." The star's wish to add James, whose 18-year-old mother died days after childbirth, to her family and take her to the United States has not been without controversy. The move was met with hostility from human rights groups, who are insisting the child should remain in her homeland. The singer adopted her son David Banda, 3, from the country in 2006 but the arrangement was not finalized until 2008 following two years of legal wrangling.

MadonnaPop singing star Madonna is not getting special treatment in her quest to adopt a young girl from Malawi, her spokeswoman said today, amid criticism Madonna is receiving special treatment in the African country. Malawi civil society groups have said they plan to oppose Madonna's attempted adoption of four-year-old Mercy James, while a prominent local human rights activist said the move would amount to trafficking in children. Madonna appeared in court in Malawi yesterday seeking to adopt Mercy. The case was adjourned until April 3rd. "The adoption process for Mercy began over a year ago when Madonna met her on one of her visits to Malawi. Critics had accused the government of giving Madonna, special treatment when she adopted her three-year-old Malawian son David Banda, saying it skirted the laws that ban nonresidents from adopting children.
